Demonstrating different approaches to sustainability in agriculture.
The Urban Farm at ValleyHUB includes a 3000 square foot indoor grow room, a 10,000 square foot greenhouse, 5000 square feet of raised bed gardens, and a 30’x72′ hoophouse is planned for installation by the end of 2017. We’re located on about 2 acres of former brownfield, and we have plans to take back the land from lawn over the next few years as we install food forests, pollinator gardens, educational and community gardens, and additional greenhouses.
The Urban Farm is first and foremost a living lab for our courses and training programs (see “Educational Programs” route). We grow tomatoes and lettuces intensively; these crops are GAP certified and are sold through our food hub. Other crops are grown by special request for our culinary school chefs. We also test the market for new crops, such as specialty Asian greens, and then work with local growers to build their relationships with local buyers.
